Speak to a Print ExpertIn March 2025, Activation agency MAYD contacted NEXT Printing ahead of ‘Everything Electric’ – the world’s number one home energy and electric vehicle show. MAYD was again working with their client – New Zealand based Evnex – to create sustainable expo stands to showcase their eco-friendly EV chargers. NEXT had previously worked with MAYD to create similar stands for Evnex in 2024. MAYD was looking to build stands that looked seamless but that also adhered to their client’s environmental remit.
The stands needed to be strong and durable in order to house multiple Evnex EV Chargers and also have the capacity to accommodate the large aluminium frame used to support the custom mirror by Flex Mirror Australia and the TV installed within the wall. A combination of 10mm and 16mm Re-board® was used to create the stands and amazingly was the only material utilised by NEXT Printing in the build. This contributed to this activation’s impressive carbon savings. Re-board®, an engineered paperboard with the strength of MDF, is also easily recycled in normal waste paper streams post activation.
Whilst retrofitting LED lighting, a custom mirror, and EV Chargers into the stand walling would generally be challenging on an MDF Build, Re-board®, as an engineered cardboard, can be cut into and manipulated on site to allow power cables (for example) to be simply fed through the walling as required.
MAYD supplied detailed drawings and excellent final artwork which made the industrial design and proofing and rendering process much easier. The challenges faced were mainly minor issues during the installation on site, including a slightly uneven floor and working in and around other teams. The modular style of the build allowed for internal access inside the walling throughout the duration of the installation. Once the mirror, LED logos, and TV were installed and the power was connected, the Re-board® was closed up.
The entire structure was constructed using Re-board®, achieving a remarkable milestone with total cradle-to-grave carbon emissions of -11kg, making it carbon negative, a significant victory for the environment. In comparison, using MDF would have resulted in 609kg of greenhouse gas emissions. This means the carbon savings were equivalent to avoiding 2,672 kilometers of travel in a petrol-powered car. Small changes can truly deliver big results!
The striking Evnex stand design from the team at MAYD was seamlessly realised using Re-board® as the sole build material. In fact, it was so well executed that it is hard to believe that both stands were entirely made of an engineered paperboard! The eco-friendly walling units fully supported the client’s sustainable values whilst also looking effortlessly clean and stylish.
