Speak to a Print Expert
In early August 2025, The Event Space reached out to Next Printing to help bring Macquarie Centre’s Spring–Summer Activation to life. The concept centred around Colour Analysis Stations that allowed shoppers to discover which palette best suited their complexion – Spring, Summer, Autumn, or Winter.
Next Printing’s role was to create a set of brightly coloured free-standing pods that would frame the experience, along with a striking 5000mm × 3000mm floor decal to anchor the installation. The team was also tasked with printing and supplying 2,400 miniature acrylic colour swatches, an interactive giveaway that tied the activation together. Because the display had to be installed after trading hours, careful pre-planning and precision fabrication were key to ensuring a smooth overnight installation.

Re-board® was chosen for its durability, versatility, and sustainability. Each arched pod was fully constructed from Re-board®, including the curved top sections. Using V-notching and folding, the team achieved clean edges and a seamless finish with no visible core, delivering a premium look that complemented the activation’s bright, playful theme. The smallest component – the 52mm × 74mm acrylic colour swatches – presented the greatest challenge. Maintaining high-resolution detail on such tiny pieces, particularly the fine logos, required careful testing. Precision laser cutting and early delivery allowed The Event Space team to pack the swatches ahead of installation, adding a layer of complexity to production and scheduling.

This activation embraced solid colour design rather than intricate artwork, allowing for a bold, polished result and faster proofing. To complete the look, white Kapa letters were added to the rear of each pod. The Event Space supplied LED mirrors ahead of schedule, giving the Next team time to test fixing methods before installation night.
The high-resolution finish on the acrylic swatches was achieved by printing onto ultra-clear self-adhesive vinyl, then mounting it to the 3 mm acrylic. To streamline installation, the pods were pre-built at Next Printing’s facility, with only the floor decal, Kapa letters, and LED mirrors installed on site after trading hours. The Re-board® construction also allowed the pods to be packed down and disposed of easily – a benefit of using a paper-based, sustainable material.

We swapped out MDF for sustainable Re-board, made from re-engineered cardboard. If we had used MDF, greenhouse gas emissions would have been 246kg. Instead, Re-board® gave us a negative carbon footprint of -32kg. That’s a total CO2e reduction of 278kg! To put it into perspective, that’s like saving the emissions of a car driving 1,119km or powering an average Australian home for nearly 6 days.

The activation was well received by both The Event Space and their client, who praised the quality and finish of the build. Macquarie Centre also featured the installation on their official Instagram account, showcasing the bright and engaging Spring–Summer 2025 experience.
