As one of the most exciting dates in the design calendar, Milan Design Week 2019 didn’t disappoint. This year saw fashion and technology brands as well as designers and architects get in on the action. With so many exhibitions and installations across Milan to see, we have compiled 5 of our favourites for your viewing pleasure!
Set against the backdrop of a former panettone factory, Lambert & Fils and DWA Design Studio’s pop-up concept bistro Caffè Populaire was reimagined as multi-sensory space filled with installations from a collective of international design studios and featuring furniture designed by Mariotti Fulget in collaboration with DWA Design Studio.

The Exhibition consisted of three defined zones – Empathy, Discovery, and Immersion. Interacting with visitors, the artworks took cues from everyday human actions like moving, breathing and talking. Picking up on these very ordinary behaviours transformed the artworks in many ways, giving each individual exhibitor a unique experience.

For this year’s Salone del Mobile, Vitra explored four very distinct environments. Each of these used design to express a particular aesthetic and outlook on life. The exhibition featured designs by Edward Barber & Jay Osgerby, Ronan & Erwan Bouroullec, Antonio Citterio, Konstantin Grcic and Hella Jongerius. These were displayed as windows into four ways of living.

Introducing the “Back Home” collection of home furnishing, Fendi Casa partnered with architect and interior designer Cristina Celestino. Whilst using Fendi Casa’s recognisable Pequin striped motif, Celestino managed to re-imagine beautiful armchairs, 1970s inspired pieces and flooring.

After advancing through a sensational courtyard, visitors ascended a spiral staircase that was beautifully illuminated by Marcel Wander’s Venezia lanterns. Once at the top, visitors were met with dramatically lit creations by Milanese Atelier Biagetti and the Italian duo Zanellato/Bortotto and could view the latest Louis Vuitton collections.
