Speak to a Print ExpertNext Printing’s sustainability focus perfectly aligned with Broadway Sydney’s recent ‘Cool New Era’ campaign in partnership with RCYCL. The remit was to raise much-needed awareness regarding textile recycling and diverting unwearable clothing away from landfills. Next Printing was charged with the printing and building of a pop-up fabric recycling booth that would remain on location at Broadway for one month. The booth’s purpose was multi-faceted. It needed to be manufactured primarily from sustainable materials, be visually appealing to draw shoppers’ attention, and most importantly, function as a working textile recycling hub, where old clothing could be brought in by customers and collected in a custom-built pod.
A combination of materials was used for this activation with as many sustainable products utilised as possible. It was important to stakeholders that the stand itself could be (for the most part) recycled. Taking this into account, Next Printing utilised Reboard® for much of the build. Its strength meant that it was robust enough to last for the duration of the campaign and with its FSC Certification and low carbon footprint, it delivered on the environmentally centered directive with Reboard® fully recyclable in normal waste-paper streams.
Over 90% of this stand was crafted from Reboard® instead of MDF. As a result, 303kg were saved in Carbon Emissions, equivalent to 1304km of car travel. We also used polyester, polyurethane, polyvinyl chloride, and LED lights. We are on a mission to discover greener alternatives for our future projects!
Build items were structurally designed and 3D rendered by Next’s industrial design team. The versatility of Reboard® meant that we could negotiate curves and easily incorporate the clear acrylic viewing window and embed the neon flex into the walling itself. Our experienced installation crew constructed the booth after trade at Broadway Sydney ready for shoppers the following morning. At the conclusion of what was a very successful campaign for Broadway Sydney and RCYCL (where over 1349kg of unwearable clothing was saved from landfill), the stand was quickly dismantled and returned to Next for recycling and other processing.
